Surreal Photo Manipulations By Laurent Rosset Turn Landscapes Into Giant Waves

1

Architect and digital artist Laurent Rosset creates sweeping photographic landscapes the seem to curl upward into infinity like an enormous wave that obliterates the sky. Rosset uses much of his own photography to create each image and enjoys discovering how even slight manipulations can vastly change the composition or meaning of a photograph. You can see more of his work on Instagram, and if you liked this also check out Aydin Buyuktas.

As a mom and Navy veteran, Vanessa Hicks knows that military family life can be challenging. That’s why she decided to celebrate the bond between military parents and their kids.

“The life of military children has always had its challenges,” Hicks told The Huffington Post. “Every time families move, children have to make new friends, get used to new schools, and find new clubs and teams to join. So, I wanted to document a special moment with a little girl and the one person that she looks up to the most, the one person who fights for our freedom.”

The photographer advertised her “Military Tea Time Mini Sessions” on her Facebook page and website and received an “overwhelming” response from fellow military families in her local Monterey, California area. When it came time for the tea parties,

“the best part was seeing the glow on these little girls’ faces!” Hicks said.

A Restaurant Perched Atop A Mountain Peak

1

Basel-based architects Herzog & de Meuron were enlisted by tourism company Toggenburg Bergbahnen to design a restaurant atop Chäserrugg, the easternmost peak of Switzerland’s Churfirsten Massif mountain range.

Reaching 7420 ft above sea level, Chäserrugg rises up from Toggenburg in the north before plunging 6250 ft down a sharp cliff to Lake Walensee. Located in a popular ski resort in the Toggenburg region, which is also home to hiking trails in the summer, the view it offers spans six countries.

Since 1972, the breathtaking region has been accessible by cable car, one hour away from Zurich. In the plateau where Chäserrugg meets Hinterrugg and Rosenboden sits a summit station, which used to house the construction workers who completed the cable car.

Built on a concrete and steel framework, the station was given a fresh facade and a new neighbor: the Gipfelrestaurant, built perpendicular to the original structure on the same concrete and steel framework. The two structures are linked via an open-air reception area, and are bordered by an outdoor terrace and panoramic viewing area.

World’s Longest Tunnel Slide To Open In London This Summer

1

Opening in London later this year, is this huge tunnel slide wrapped around the ArcelorMittal Orbit, a sculpture that was designed for the 2012 Olympics. The slide will allow visitors to loop their way through parts of the structure on their way to the ground. The tight corkscrew design of the tunnel slide will have visitors descending 178m (over 583 feet), from the observation level to the ground.

This is what the sculpture looked like when it was originally built (without the slide), with the stairs winding their way up to the observation tower.
