スマホの見過ぎで現代の若者の頭蓋骨に「ツノ」が生え始めているというニュースは本当なのか?

 海外では、スマホのせいで若者の頭蓋骨からツノが生えてきたというニュースが話題となっている。

 きっかけになったのは、6月20日付のワシントンポスト紙に掲載された記事だ。これは、2018年2月に豪サンシャイン・コースト大学のデビッド・シャハール氏らが『Scientific Reports』で発表した研究を紹介したもので、他にも大手メディアにで取り上げられるなど、ここ最近大いに注目されている。

 だが、このニュースに対して、研究内容はおかしいのではないかという反論が出ている。研究の根拠は脆弱で、あらかさまに矛盾しているデータが含まれているというのだ。

 それによると、おそらく一番の問題は、この研究ではツノが生えたなどとは一言も言っておらず、被験者による携帯機器の使用について何らのデータも提供していないことだろうという。 続きを読む
