自閉症発症リスクに関連づけられる遺伝子が、自閉症ではない人においては高い認識能力に結びついている可能性が、新たな研究によって明らかになった。
自閉症と知能の関係についてはまだよくわからない点が多く、研究途上にある。広汎性発達障害に分類される自閉症の症状はさまざまだが、多くの場合、言葉や知能の遅れを伴う。しかし一方で、言葉を用いない非言語的知能は平均よりも高い自閉症者が存在する。
