Spacelander was the Bicycle of the Future, 1946-1960

The Spacelander bicycle was designed by Benjamin Bowden for the 1946 exhibition Britain Can Make It. Originally known as the Classic, the streamlined design was said to represent what the bicycle of the future was supposed to look like.

The frame was made from two steel clamshell halves pressed together into a monocoque and the front fork and mudguard were all one piece. The prototype featured a driveshaft and a hub dynamo that stored energy when riding downhill and gave a boost when riding uphill. The batteries inside the frame powered lights, a horn, and a built-in radio.

The bicycle was priced at $89.50, which made it one of the more expensive bicycles on the market. In addition, the fiberglass frame was relatively fragile, and its unusual nature made it difficult to market to established bicycle distributors. Only 522 Spacelander bicycles were shipped before production was halted, although more complete sets of parts were manufactured.

Beginning in the 1980s, there was a resurgence of interest in the Spacelander as a collectors’ item. The Bicycle Museum in Pennsylvania owns 17 of the proposed 38 left Spacelanders in the world.

Artist Shows Us What Famous Characters Would Look Like In Real Life

Cartoon characters are far from being realistic and most of us can’t even imagine what they would look like if they existed in real life. That’s when artists come to the rescue and show us what famous characters would be like if they were more human.

Hossein Diba went beyond just drawing these characters in 2D, this artist makes full characters using 3D software and the result speaks for itself. The 3D models are full of tiny details and hard work, perfectly transforming the cartoon characters we all know and love.

“The Florist & Garden Miscellany”: Unique Collage Works That Include Botanics And Themes Of Mortality

Dan Barry has been drawn to creating mixed media and fond of collaged image drawings since he was a young person growing up in northern Wisconsin. Now living in Austin, Texas, his love of vintage visual media has grown and developed throughout his career.

In “The Florist & Garden Miscellany,” Dan continues to combine the marks of his hand with vintage mixed media, both old and new, to explore themes that are deeply personal in ways that make them universal. Dan Barry’s artwork reflects our difficult times in their exploration of loss, life, and mortality as well as our ongoing desire for deep human connection. His work invites us to reflect and embrace the place of love, loss, and the passage of time in our own lives.

“A lot has transpired this past year. In “The Florist & Garden Miscellany” (October 2 – 31 at La Luz Jesus Gallery, Los Angeles), I will be showing (60) pieces from my Botanical series alongside (11) related artworks that are larger in scale and/or more intricate.”

“In March of 2020, all of my upcoming exhibitions were canceled or indefinitely postponed within one week. That same week, I started “staying home” nearly full-time for the next 12+ months. I had no approaching deadlines and even more time on my hands to spend working in the studio. I began looking through my flat file drawers of paper and rediscovered a collection of hand-colored botanical prints that I had not thought about for a long time. The botanicals are from bound volumes of Paxton’s Magazine of Botany from the 1840s.”

“I set the stack on my work table and began to draw, collage, and build up a history of marks on them. It was a liberating way for me to get going once again in the studio. Over the following months, these meanderings resulted as a chronicle of my days, thoughts, and reactions to the world around me: widening national ideological divide, lies and conspiracy theories, racism and xenophobia, sickness, disease, death, aging and mortality, uncertainty, fear of a dystopian future.”

“As well as – a large amount of damage to my home and studio, caused by unprecedented, sustained winter weather in Texas and the failure of its vulnerable and neglected power grid.”

Below are some examples of the artist’s works in this series and other related works from “The Florist & Garden Miscellany.” You can find more at the website linked above.

“Dark Carnival”: Photographer Makes a Shots of Vintage Creepy Clowns In a Cornfield

According to Tara Mapes: “If you know me, you know Halloween is my favorite time of year. Scratch the pumpkin spice and sweater weather, I just love recreating vintage horror shots.

Last year I created papier-mache masks and did some cool horror stuff (you can check out by clicking here)! I also did a shoot at an old abandoned asylum (you can check out the post by clicking here). And don’t forget the Dark Carnival that came to town earlier this year (you can find the post here)!

This year I went with CLOWNS AND CORN.

This weekend I’ll be shooting at an actual Horror House down the street, so stay tuned for the return of the DARK CARNIVAL.

Enjoy, my fellow fright freaks, enjoy!”

There’s a Gaming Pc Hidden Inside This Incredible Gaming Den Diorama

There’s no shortage of ingenuity and creativity when it comes to gaming PCs, but this build takes the cake in 2021 so far. It’s a gaming PC masquerading as a PC gamer’s dream room setup, and it’s enough to make you stop scrolling and stare in awe at its stunning level of detail.

Pretty much everywhere you look in this case build there’s something special. The gaming desk is the graphics card, the aquarium is a reservoir, and piped through the wall is a Mini-ITX motherboard with hard-loop cooling.

Oh and those tiny gaming monitors? They actually work, you know.

It comes from Suchao Modding & Design, run by Suchao Prowphong out of Thailand, and was produced in partnership with Intel for its Gamer Days 2021 event.

息をするように愛情を表す。自然に寄り添う動物たちのやさしい世界

寄り添い合う動物たちのやさしい世界
nikkikabins / Reddit
