Artist Places Iconic Horror Characters Into Classic Disney’s Mickey Mouse Cartoons

Whatever your age is, we all loved Disney growing up and feel pretty nostalgic about it, but when you look back at the cartoons from the past, there is something oddly creepy about them.

New York-based artist Mike Chiechi, who is known on social media as Frank’s Kid, has been a fan of monster movies, drawing, and cartoons from childhood and noticed that classic cartoons are not as innocent as they seem,so he decided to take them to the next level of spookiness by placing some of his favorite horror characters into them.

In his series of black and white gruesome illustrations, iconic characters who have been keeping us up at night such as Freddy Kruger, Leatherface, and Jason Voorhees play a special cameo in the 1930s Mickey Mouse cartoon, and, surprisingly, these pop-culture crossovers look like they could be a real thing.

“Well, I just remember watching the old Disney cartoons when I was a kid, and finding them to be pretty spooky. Even when it was completely unintentional! Now, as an animator and a lover of horror, I figured it was only natural to mix them with my favorite horror icons! To me, they really don’t seem THAT out of place next to Mickey and Minnie!” Chiechi told Bored Panda.

Artist Shares Her Journey Of Expecting A Baby By Drawing Disney Princesses Going Through Pregnancy

Artist Anna Belenkiy is a freelance digital artist who is experiencing pregnancy for the first time. She decided to share her journey with her followers using Disney Princesses and some hilarious everyday moments of what it’s like being pregnant as part of her project “Real-life Princesses.”

Celebrating first moments

“Mulan and Shang Lee decided to celebrate super romantic Valentine’s Day, but the upcoming baby warrior had a different plan for their romantic date. This illustration was inspired by my baby’s first kicks.”

This one is for the dads

“Today we discovered the gender of the baby and the father started crying. Isn’t that adorable?! I wanted to dedicate this illustration to all the sensitive daddies, you are the best!”

Pregnancy glow they said

“They said pregnancy makes you glow and pretty, glow and pretty my ass! It looks like I haven’t slept for ages. When I look at the mirror, she screams back at me and begs me to stop! And what is the deal with all the pimples? I had less when I was a teenager! Only Ariel feels my pregnancy pain.”

No more skinny pants

“Oh god, I just realized that all of my pants no longer fit and, since we’re in lockdown, there is no place to buy new pants, so until my online orders arrive, I’m stuck!”

It all begins with a fantasy, just like any other…

“This incredible and magical moment that you realize you’re about to create new life and bring it into this world is one of a kind and Mulan decided to surprise Shang Lee for Christmas with a super unique present. Congratulations to the future Mommy and Daddy.”

The loss of all manners

“Belle forgot all her French manners while craving some French fries, as did I… who knew fried food can bring out the Beast in you?”

Next, a relatable moment to all moms-to-be

“Morning sickness that continues all day long is a huge part of my daily life as a pregnant woman. My dearest husband decided to capture this ‘precious’ moment on video in order to show it to our child in the future. So thank you for this unforgettable capture.”

Jumping into real talk territory

“So I wanted to talk about the elephant in the room:

I imagined my pregnancy real gentle and magical. No one prepared me for the fact that I would be a huge gas balloon without any control over it, so I’m here to tell you the whole truth about it.

At this point, I can definitely say that the romance is gone.”

Stop crying your eyes out

“What the hell is wrong with me? Can it be fixed?! I find myself hysterically crying about everything! My tears can fill a bathtub. I decided to capture the moment of me and my husband and illustrate us as Cinderella and her prince as a day in my life.”

Disney Characters ‘Humanimalized’: Artist Turns Animal Characters Into Humans And Humans Into Animals

Disney characters are distinct and special. They have their own style, aesthetic, and personal traits, which is why they’re so memorable. But let’s take a detour from the canon and ask ourselves “what if something was a little different about them?” What if, for example, Bambi was a human being, and Cruella de Vil was a dog herself? What would they look like then?

Now you may wonder no more, as Alex Pick has concocted images that satisfy this peculiar interest. He has turned the animal characters to humans, and did the reverse to the human characters. The artist calls the series “Disney humanimals,” which is pretty self-explanatory.

The artist explained his motivation behind the series to Bored Panda. “It was an idea already for a very long time to transform the animals into humans and also the other way around! I like these switched roles and those kind of mashups,” he told us. If you like his work, you can check out his Instagram account apiccolodraws, which has 113k followers, and see more of his fun mashups, which include characters from Harry Potter and others.

Teach Yourself to Draw with The Help of The Man Who Influenced Walt Disney, 1913

“In drawing from this book, copy the last diagram, or finished picture, of the particular series before you,” advises American artist E.G. Lutz (August 26, 1868 — March 30, 1951) in the introduction to his first book What To Draw and How To Draw It (1913).

h/t: flashbak

“The other diagrams – beginning with number one, then number two, and so on – show how to go on with your drawing. They give the order in which to make the various strokes of the pencil that together form the completed picture. The dotted lines indicate where light lines are drawn that – help in construction – that is; getting proportions correctly, outlining the general form, or marking details in their proper places. Do not press hard on the pencil in making these construction lines, then they can be erased afterwards. Use pencil compasses for the circles, or mark them off with buttons or disks.”

Readers may also enjoy Edward George Lutz’s Drawing made easy : a helpful book for young artists; the way to begin and finish your sketches, clearly shown step by step, published in 1922. But let’s begin at the beginning. Readers in good company. Mr Lutz authored 17 books, most were how-to manuals dealing with art and drawing techniques, but two were about aspects of the film industry. His book Animated Cartoons – How they are made, their origin and development (1920) was discovered by the 19-year-old Walt Disney at his local library in Kansas City who used it as a guide.
