The Supercharged Art Of Walter Molino

Walter Molino was born in 1915 and died in 1997 at age 82. He began working professionally as an illustrator and caricaturist in 1935 for a newspaper and two children’s magazines, followed by a satirical magazine and several comic strip series.

In 1941 Molino became the chief cover illustrator for La Domenica del Corriere, an Italian weekly newspaper. His work for this paper supplies most of the incredible scenes in this post. One can only imagine the stories behind these images. Almost all of them depict life and death situations. They’re like freeze frames in the midst of extreme action. And they move. His style is kinetic and electric, vivid and cinematic. You can feel the energy. Many depict women and children at risk, fires, explosions, and calamitous crashes. He seems to have a thing about falling, usually from great heights.

Meet The Street Artist Who Made $1,000 By Adding A Bitcoin QR Code To His Murals

Pascal Boyart is using QR codes to fuel his street art with Bitcoin donations.

Thanks to blockchain tech and cryptocurrencies, creatives might have a new viable option to make ends meet without leaving their fiscal stability in the hands of profit-oriented dealers and corporations. Meet French street artist Pascal ‘PBOY’ Boyart.

Influenced by the the vision of Satoshi Nakamoto and Bitcoin, Boyart has made cryptocurrencies and decentralization a central theme in his work. In his paintings, Bitcoin becomes not only an integral part of the piece itself, but also the very method by which Boyart can profit from his creation.

“I first included a Bitcoin QR code in my work in November 2017,” Boyart told Hard Fork. “I painted a street art piece of a child asking his father ‘Dad, what is money?’ and I placed a QR code at the side of my signature.”

“I wasn’t sure if someone had done this already, but I wanted to see if people could support street artists with donations,” the artists added. “I did it as an homage to Andreas Antonopoulos’ book The Internet of Money.”

Since then, Boyart has received over $1,000 (approximately 0.11 BTC) in donations so far, according to stats from the Bitcoin blockchain explorer.

“All Our Wrong Todays”: The Colossal Worlds Of Nicolas Bouvier

The diversity of the world always fascinated him. He knew he was privileged to have had the chance to travel the world extensively at such a young age. From Europe to the States, via China and Singapore, everywhere he went, he observed the people closely and took notes of all the tiny details of the lives of these strangers. Nicolas “Sparth” Bouvie, known as Sparth, let loose his creativity and quickly went from being a mere observer, to translating forms and concepts in impressive game art designs.

Today Sparth is the Art Director of Halo 5: Guardians, the latest installment to the popular series developed by 343 Industries and published by Microsoft Studios.

His professional career began at Darkworks Studio, the Paris based game studio responsible for Alone in the Dark 4, where he worked for six years. In 2003, he moved to Montreal to join Ubisoft on their ongoing projects Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Assassin’s Creed. He then head to Idsoftware in Dallas, in 2005, where he spent more than three years working on different games, including the extremely popular Rage.

It was in January 2009 that Sparth finally moved to Seattle to participate in designing the future HALO adventures with 343 Industries, the Microsoft studio in charge of the Halo franchise.

His career has been strongly influenced by the various cultures and locations he witnessed whilst growing up. His multiple interests range from space to buildings, robotics and beyond, but his greatest passion remains contemporary architecture. With a unique and experimental approach, Sparth often applies principles of contemporary architecture in his own art. He has a thing for modern skyscrapers, and although he flies high with his imagination, he confesses he wouldn’t be able to live too high above the ground himself.

Sparth has been an active artistic director and concept designer in the gaming industry since 1996 and has contributed to the development of multiple games and books, including his own art book series Structura 1, 2, and 3, published by DesignStudioPress.

“Our Future Is Now”: The Incredible Cyberpunk Illustrations Of Mad Dog Jones

Enter Mad Dog Jones, Instagram artist extraordinaire. His work is part collage, part illustration, and 100 percent designed for social media. The Toronto-based artist creates vivid imagery with bright colors and fine linework, combining hectic environments with serene portraiture.

Akira bikes and Gundam bots are paired with Asian cityscapes and signage, then overlaid with characters pulled straight from the app store. There’s also a heavy focus on clothing brands and style. His work could be described as illustrated sci-fi fashion editorials.

There’s a fluency in the existing visual language, a battle with the pull to unplug, and the cultivation of walled internet gardens to grow a following. While it all goes unspoken and is only communicated through the work itself, it’s intentional.

“This style was developed specifically for Instagram,” Mad Dog, also known as Michah Dowbak, says over Skype from a snowy northern Ontario. “There’s no way I could be reaching this level of [a following] while simultaneously doing my other stuff. I prefer Instagram, because words can hurt someone a lot more than images.”
