The path to the historic site is lit up by animated trees titled “Resonating Trees” which leads visitors to the second exhibition of giant interactive light orbs, “Resonating Spheres”, which hums with music in response to the visitor’s touch. Music, motion and light are constantly changing with the participants in the environment around the Sakura Gate of the shrine – the installation functions as a chain of harmonious notes and radiance emitted throughout the peaceful sanctuary.

The forest too sings and fades into a dazzle of shimmering colors as it senses presences approach. The lighted shrine grounds is animated comically – the gentle and ethereal muted lighted to signifying prayer and meditation which usually accompanies shrines is mildly transformed with the introduction of vivid orbs emitting powerful light of every color on the spectrum. The interactive light display installation by Teamlab creates a festive and magical atmosphere without disturbing the sanctity of the isolated shrine.

The Photographer That Is Constantly Silenced And Censored By Instagram

Who decides what is appropriate and inappropriate? In our modern world, we face several contradictions and double standards in terms of what we believe and deem to be acceptable. We boast the fact that we are the most open society regarding sexuality, yet we continue to have underlying ideas that prove our claims to be wrong.

We talk about sex, yet the sight of a naked body is shocking to us. This last statement is almost always in regards to the male figure. Recently, Instagram removed the account of choreographer and photographer AdeY for the third time. What sort of controversial or explicit image did this artist upload? Well it featured three male models, but not in a sexualized or even explicit manner.

AdeY’s work captures those little moments of social oppression, humour, isolation, anxiety and depression. It recognises that we not only change in relationship to our environment but that our environment adapts to what we become.

The images depict imbalances evident in contemporary society today by directly addressing issues of gender, normative behaviour and how society forces us to choose one direction or path. The subjects show our vulnerability, loneliness, strengths and expectations whilst highlighting the correlation between body and space.

“Insider Outsider”: Artist Saks Afridi Creates Fantastic Traditional Hand-Made Rugs Covered With UFO Patterns

Saks Afridi is an art-based Creative Director and multi-disciplinary artist with 17 years of both US and global experience. He’s the proud recipient of 2 Gold Cannes Lions, 3 D&AD, 2 One Show pencils and a UN award for peace and understanding, in 2015.

“Pakistan, the country of my birth is a somewhat unfamiliar place to me today. It has changed so much, I sometimes feel like an alien there. The difference in ideology is so vast, it’s easy to feel like an outsider. Meanwhile in my adopted home of New York City, I feel completely at home, but at times, I’m an alien here too. And so like many others I maintain the status of a temporary yet permanent, Insider Outsider. And sometimes vice versa.

I was born in Peshawar, Pakistan and originate from a village nearby called Babri Banda. This is the heartland of the Pashtun people. Over the years, the culture in the region has shifted drastically. Like in Iran, we all grew up hearing stories of Pakistan’s happier, more open-minded times. And while Pakistan was never supremely moderate, the radicalization of our age refuses to cease. Personally, while I speak Urdu and Pashto, and visit Pakistan often, I still feel like an alien sometimes. Truth is, people living there feel like aliens. In fact, I find it’s a universal feeling. In my work, the UFO represents the outsider. The patterns surrounding it represents the insider. I find the combination of Eastern traditional craftsmanship and Western contemporary sensibilities, has led me to this work and a category I refer to as Sub- Continental Futurism.”
